In the spring of 2020, MacMillan was instrumental in bringing the SAHA Male and Female U18 Prep programs to southeast Alberta and he was named the program’s first General Manager. Prior to teaching, MacMillan obtained his Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Lethbridge. In October of 2011, he received his Masters of Education in Coaching Studies from the University of Victoria. MacMillan’s brother, Tavis, is an assistant coach with the University of Denver Pioneers (NCAA Div I).

Gavin grew up in Hay River, Northwest Territories; spending most of his time on outdoor rinks, and dreaming of playing hockey in the NHL. Gavin’s hockey career was cut short due to repeated concussions during his time as a forward for the Medicine Hat Tigers. Despite contact sports being off the table at just 18 years old, Gavin continued his athletic pursuits in Olympic lifting, sprinting, cycling, and long track speed skating. Gavin spent two years sprinting for The University of Lethbridge while completing his B.A. Kinesiology degree from University of Lethbridge. After obtaining his degree he was selected by Speed Skating Canada to join an Elite level program training under a four-time Olympian for his coach, Michael Ireland. Some of Gavin’s biggest interests are Exercise Physiology, Sport Nutrition, and Sport Psychology. Gavin remains a competitive cyclist while working as the Male U18 Prep Assistant Coach, as well as the Strength coach for SAHA and Medicine Hat Tigers of the WHL.
