Darren MacMillan
General Manager
Darren MacMillan has been an educator in Prairie Rose Public Schools since 1997. His teaching career included five years in Schuler, followed by three and a half years in Irvine, and then 17.5 years at Eagle Butte High School. In July of 2018, MacMillan was appointed Program Development Coordinator of Prairie Rose Public Schools. Part of his role was the development and implementation of the South Alberta Hockey Academy. In the first years, the school based high performance academies saw a 160% growth. In the spring of 2020, MacMillan was instrumental in bringing the SAHA Male and Female U18 Prep programs to South East Alberta and he was named the program’s first General Manager. MacMillan spearheaded the development of South Alberta High School (online platform) and was named the school’s principal in 2022. In 2024 he was appointed Director of Enhanced Programming for Prairie Rose Public Schools. Prior to teaching, MacMillan obtained his Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Lethbridge. In October of 2011, he received his Masters of Education in Coaching Studies from the University of Victoria.
Brayden Desjardins
Head Coach
Brayden Desjardins is a Calgary native, has been a coach for the Medicine Hat Minor Hockey Association on and off for the past 8 years. He first served as the SEAC U18 AAA assistant coach for 3 years after which he left to coach internationally with HC Dalen of the Swedish Division 1 hockey league. Upon his return, Brayden was the head coach of the U15 AA program for 2 years before jumping to U15 AAA for the 2019-2020 season. He spent the last 3 “normal” summers coaching in Brainerd, Minnesota at illustrious Minnesota Hockey Camps, where he worked with WHL, USHL, NAHL and NCAA division 1 players. Brayden has been with the SAHA since its inception in 2018. Beginning as a skills coach, Brayden took the role as the U18 Male Prep head coach for SAHA’s inaugural season this past year.
Gavin Broadhead
Assistant Coach
Gavin grew up in Hay River, Northwest Territories, spending most of his time on outdoor rinks and dreaming of playing hockey in the NHL. His hockey career was cut short due to repeated concussions during his time as a forward for the Medicine Hat Tigers. Despite contact sports being off the table at just 18 years old, Gavin continued his athletic pursuits in Olympic lifting, sprinting, cycling, and long track speed skating. He spent two years sprinting for the University of Lethbridge while completing his B.A. in Kinesiology. After obtaining his degree, he was selected by Speed Skating Canada to join an elite-level program, training under a four-time Olympian, Coach Michael Ireland. Some of Gavin’s biggest interests are exercise physiology, sport nutrition, and sport psychology. He remains a competitive cyclist while working as the Male U18 Prep Assistant Coach and the strength coach for SAHA and the Medicine Hat Tigers of the WHL.
